Concept and goalThe Campaign Panel is a nine-wave survey of Internet users entitled to vote. The respondents are interviewed up to seven times at short intervals – seven times before the 2017 federal election and twice afterwards. Parallel to waves 4, 6 and 8, control cross-sections (1,000 respondents each) were carried out. In spring 2017, the panel was refreshed with new respondents. The panel participants from Lower Saxony were interviewed in a separate post-election survey on the state elections in Lower Saxony in 2017.
After the 2017 Bundestag elections, the Campaign Panel was merged into the GLES panel. In this framework, up to two waves per year are conducted between the federal elections.
The Campaign Panel allows for an analysis of changes in individuals' political attitudes and political behaviour over the course of an election campaign.
